Chocolate Dipped Pops...Fail

I have a Zoku Quick-Pop popsicle maker and for Christmas my brother got me an attachment for dipping the pops in chocolate and sprinkles.  This morning, I decided to try it out and I made apple cider popsicles dipped in white chocolate and sprinkled with cinnamon.  I melted the chocolate in a double boiler and pulled out the first batch of pops (each batch only takes about ten minutes).  I pulled out a pop and dipped it in the chocolate filled mold. Chocolate spewed out the top and didn't stick to the popsicle. :(  I decided the chocolate was too cold (the instructions said to let the chocolate cool completely before applying it to the pops, so much for directions).  I scraped out the chocolate (quite a process) and reheated it.  I had mild success with that batch of pops. With the next batch of pops I was not so lucky.  The chocolate refused to stick to the pops no matter what I did.  I ended up by using the "drizzling spoon" to slop some chocolate on the pops.  They were far from beautiful, but beauty isn't everything I suppose...

Cocottes & Donabes

Today we stopped by a Vietnamese place for lunch.  We were drawn in by the seductive scents and charming atmosphere surrounding the place.  I got a grilled chicken sandwich which had things on it that I would not normally eat, though were delicious.  The owner was a lovely woman and talented cook who was quite willing to stand for a picture at the end of the meal.  Friendly with the customers, she sat and ate dessert with regulars while sharing family photos.  She was a truly delightful woman serving truly delightful food.

Cafe du Marche

The other night we went to an awesome cafe called Cafe du Marche.  The other night I got duck with roasted potatoes.  It was AMAZING!!  Today we went for lunch and I got chicken with mashed potatoes, which was FAB!  The mashed potatoes with the sauces from the chicken was SPECTACULAR!!!  As was the duck the other day.  The duck and the chicken were both just like all the cliches you hear.  Melt in your mouth, fall off the bone, etc.
They have been my 2 favorite meals in Paris!

Gelato in Paris

Tonight I got gelato at an awesome gelato place here.  We went back because my brother wanted some and didn't get any the other day.  The other day I got stracciatella and raspberry and today I got stracciatella and hazelnut.  The place is unique because all the flavors are natural.  The flavors taste like the actual food.  If you get a cone it looks very cool.  They layer on all your flavors in a flower pattern.  You can get as many flavors as you want in your size.  You order a size at the counter then they give the reciept to the scoopers.  Essentially, its really good gelato!

Ham, baguette, cheese, and Paris

While in Paris I have been having a lot of ham sandwiches (called Mixtes).  Some are better than others but, its a generally ok Parisian lunch.   It's been great in Paris and I have to go out for another lovely day of museuming.  Aujourdhui je visite le Louvre.
Gotta go!

This is my meal from La Boissonnerie.  The appetizer is a pea mouse with ham.  The "plat" is lamb with lentils and spicy sausage.  My dessert is a vanilla creme brulee.  It was all delicious!

The other day when hanging out with my friend Madelyn we made cookies for her dad.  We made peanut butter cookies with a hershey kiss in the center.  They were DELICIOUS!  Cooked perfectly with a melty chocolate kiss in the center!  Hope her dad enjoyed them!

Steak

I'm on vacation in California to see my aunt and Grandparents.  Last night we had steaks.  My job: steak tester.  My Grandpa has an electronic steak tester where you stabbed in the prongs and pressed a button.  The lights lit up to show you how done your steak was.  For several minutes I stood along side my Grandpa saying "medium", "medium well" until all the steaks were finished.  MY FACE FELT FRIED! But the steaks, baked potatoes and fruit were good!

Edible Art

Hi guys!
The other day I did this thing called edible art at my brother's school so I decided to post a picture of it.  I made it out of rice krispie treats and fruit roll ups.  I won an award.  It was either for most creative or best middle schooler.  I'm not sure which, but either way, I'm happy!

Pot Stickers

Tonight I made pot stickers using a recipe from a teen cookbook I have.  I made a couple substitutions that resulted in a great meal.  There were very few if any glitches and my family, especially my meat adoring brother, loved it(and so did I!).  Please email me if you'd like the recipe.

Yogurt Ideas

I thank all of you for the great emails I got about my plea for new twists on plain old yogurt.  I got a ton of new ideas and have been yogurt-ing away my recent snow days!  Today: I combined household ingredients to make an awesome fruit smoothie!  I will be coming out with a recipe soon.  All you need is some frozen fruit (I used raspberries and strawberries),normal vanilla yogurt, orange juice, and sugar.  Again, I don't have exact measurements yet, but I'll measure next time I make it.

P.S. I'm doing the Polar Bear Plunge tomorrow! I'm freaking out!

YOGURT!!!

So this year with my resolution to be healthier I have decided to begin eating yogurt.  Now yogurt is good, but soon, it begins to get boring.  Please email me some ideas of ways to spice up my yogurt!
Thanks!

Ham-chos!!!

The thing you've all been waiting for... my own food creation!!!!  Yes... it is... ham-chos!  For those of you that don't understand my nutty language, they are nachos with ham!  This afternoon after school, I wanted a snack.  I hardly ever have nachos, but I decided, "Oh, what the heck, why not".  While looking through the cheese drawer I found some ham(lunch meat) again, I said, "What the heck, why not", and tried it.  The result, pure deiciousness.  Though I suggest ripping up your ham before placing it on your cheese/chip mixture, if you would like all your chips stuck together after microwaving, it's your choice!

P.S. I'm still stuck on the food of the month

Deep Fried and Delicious

For Christmas, my Dad recived ... wait for it ... a DEEP FRIER!!!!  Yes, this means that our house will soon be full of everything from deep fried pickles to deep fried oreos.  Let the fattening begin!  And, as the first fried food, I made cheese sticks.  They were quite good; easier than I thought.  It took a surprisingly small amount of time and effort.  You simply preheat the oil, dip cheese in egg, cover it in bread crumbs, and lower it into the hot oil.  So, I'm sure, more fried foods will be made soon!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
